When all else fails use tissue paper! My gumpaste made banana tree leaves fell apart while trying to assemble my tree, so went with tissue!
George is a store bought toy, lei is store bought too... everything else other than tree leaves is edible.

How do you make this Tree Trunk? any tips on the technique is appreciated!
Can you tell me what you made the tree trunk outr of? Is that Gum Paste as well? And how do you get it to look like that?
Wilton makes a white plastic dowel rod that is hollow down the center, I think pkg'd 4 to a bag, can't remember now... but that's what I start with.
I used gumpaste on this tree, but have had better experience using fondant, it sticks to itself better and takes less time to get right. Take a ball of fondant, tint it tan or a light brown, roll it out into a rope about 1/4" wide and wrap it around the dowel. Try to wrap so no white shows through. Start at the point where you'll actually see the trunk (the portion being inserted into the cake should not be covered with fondant). Once you've covered your trunk, take a Viva papertowel and gently press or rub the fondant rope together so it flattens a bit and covers any gaps, I usually flatten it quite a bit. If you need help with the fondant sticking to itself, take a paint brush with a bit of water on it and you'll find this will help the pieces stick (don't use very much).
The final step is to place your trunk in a tall drinking glass (not plastic) to support the trunk and allow it to dry. I also take a little Wilton brown color in a small bowl, mix with some water, and paint on some color to the trunk. Just use a small amount on a dry brush, don't saturate the brush.

I love this cake - I am having trouble making bananas. How did you make yours? I love the tree. I was going to use Wilton's Palm Tree. Not sure how it is going to work yet - but thank you for the instructions on how you made yours! Great Job!
